BFC Project #1: Our Final Favourites, Part 2

January 27, 2017

Catch up on Part 1 of this here to see our models and make-up artist's favourites photos from our first Barnsley Fashion Creatives photoshoot.

The first Barnsley Fashion Creatives project was back in October and it was a brilliant day with a brilliant team! We now can show you our favourite picks from the bunch, which we ended up with lots of usable photos for all who was involved. We worked with local designer Spirit Original Designs who creates clothing and accessories, make-up artist and hair stylist Nicola Whitfield, Photographer Kevin Hinchcliffe and our two models Sammi Scargill and Megan Pickering and shot our photos around the Barnsley Colliery and Jakto's Transportation yard. You can look back on our previous first project posts here:

The photographer for the shoot, Kevin's favourites:

'I love the pictures with the falling leaves, the setup was later in the day when everyone was truly on point and combining ideas together and a fun part in the day too.
The location we'd scouted for this part, had a little makeover, by dressing the set with leaves placed on the floor and Trish spotting an old wheel to add into the scene, Nicola's hair and makeup work was done so she jumped up on the wall floating the leaves in, Sammy and Megan doing really well, confidently showing off the clothing and maintaining that they are the main focal point of the picture as the leaves were falling past (occasionally on them :) ) and Trish's designs completing an autumnal theme set together nicely. I loved the amount of collaboration on this part mainly, and I believe it shows in the end results of both Sammy and Megan's sets.'

'The two pictures near the large wooden bases are also nice as I was able to use the straight edges to guide the attention onto the models, also lighting the scene with a drop off in brightness to the background helped to make Sammy and Megan stand out from the wooden background. The textures on the wood provided a different feel to the images too.'

'Megan's final outfit with the boulders in the background just blurred away a little to take the attention away from it. By Underexposing the scene to make it darker and moodier, picking Megan out with fill flash and a slight rim light from the back to further make her stand out from the background helped. With Megan pulling up to snuggle into the robe to keep warm, a nice confident glance off to the side gave a feeling of defiance to the cold, helping show the additional element to the outfit.'

My personal faves of the shoot:

I think this photo of Sammi is so angelic! She has a great pose to show off the quirky printed tunic whilst still making her figure look flattering.

Group shots can be difficult but I really like how this photo turned out. They are both showing the garments well and posing nice together.

I love this funky coat that Megan is wearing and the stance she has in this photo makes it really stand out. Plus against this backdrop, it really brings that impact.

This shoot was such a good day and an experience for the whole team. We are hoping to do many photoshoot projects this year with local businesses who want extra exposure and help. Please use the contact form for more information if you're interested.
